Milantan, Milantane, Milantean, and Milantos have all been used as the adjective to people and things from or related to Milantos. In this article we will evaluate each word that has been used based on the following criteria:

1. The number of sources.
2. The in-universe sources.
3. The in-universe dates.
4. The real-world dates.

Milantan

In the text To Be A Shadow, written by the Gharu'rndim historical figure Mansur al-Rajan, Milantan is used to describe the people of Milantos, and things related to Milantos.<ref name=ToBeAShadow>1999/11 Release - To Be A Shadow</ref> This text written around 1022 RC (-393 PY).

In the text The Fallen Master of Shagar Zharala, an unknown author, likey a Gharu'ndim, uses Milantan to describe the people of Milantos.<ref name=TheFallenMasterOfShagarZharala>2000/04 Thorns of the Hopeslayer - The Fallen Master of Shagar Zharala</ref> This text was first discovered in Portal Year 11.

In an introduction to Gharu'ndim history, Milantan is used to describe the King of Milantos.<ref name=ZogblasterGharundimIntro>1999/11 Release - Zogblaster Archive: Gharu'ndim Introduction</ref> This text could either be considered to be written in an in-universe third-person, or by an Isparian scholar on Dereth. If it was written by an Isparian, it was likely written between -15 PY and 10 PY.

In the Lands of Asheron Magazine Tear-out section on cultures, Milantan is used to desribe the kingdom of Milantos.<ref name=LandsOfAsheronCultures>1999/11 Release - Lands of Asheron Magazine Tear-out: Cultures</ref> This text could either be considered to be written in an in-universe third-person, or by an Isparian scholar on Dereth. If it was written by an Isparian, it was likely written between 5 PY and 10 PY, since it mentions the town of Tufa.

In the story The Frost King, Milantan is used to describe and object from Milantos.<ref name=TheFrostKing>2001/11 Dark Majesty - The Frost King</ref> This story is told in an in-universe third-person perspective, and occurs in Portal Year 10.

In the story Reawakening, Part Five, Milantan is used describe the language of Milantos.<ref name=Reawakening>2003/12 Waking From the Abyss - Reawakening, Part Five</ref> This story is told in an in-universe third-person perspective, and occurs in Portal Year 14.

In the story Sanamar Under Siege, Milantan is used to describe things related to Milantos.<ref name=SanamarUnderSiege>2005/05 Pre-Throne of Destiny - Sanamar Under Siege</ref> his story is told in an in-universe third-person perspective, and was first available Portal Year 16, although the events it describes took place earlier.

In the description of the weapon Brador's Frozen Eye, Milantan is used to describe the people of Milantos, and things related to Milantos.<ref name=BradorsFrozenEye>2005/07 Throne of Destiny - Brador's Frozen Eye</ref> This description is in an in-universe third-person perspective, and this weapon was first discovered in Portal Year 16.

Milantane

In the text The Reign of Alfrega, written by the Aluvian scholar Midistaff the Learned, Milantane is used to describe the the qualities of a person from Milantos.<ref name=TheReignOfAlfrega>1999/11 Release - The Reign of Alfrega</ref> It is unknown when this text was written, but given that Midistaff wrote, "[Alfrega] was succeeded by her son, Osric, who would come to be known as the Wise,"<ref name=TheReignOfAlfrega /> it had to be written during or after the reign of Osric - 810 RC (-711 PY) or later.<ref name=TheReignOfAlfrega />

Milantean

In the Writ of Refuge Text, written by Nuhmudira, Milantean is used to describe the people of Milantos, and things related to Milantos.<ref name=WritText>2001/10 Dark Majesty - Writ of Refuge Text</ref> This text first became available in Portal Year 12.

In the Flesh and Blood Teaser, Milantean is used to describe the land of Milantos.<ref name=FleshAndBloodTeaser>2002/01 Flesh and Blood - Teaser</ref> This story is told in an in-universe third-person perspective, and occurs in Portal Year 13.

In the story The Ruschk, which is from the journal of Carlo di Cenza, Milantean is used to described the language of Milantos.<ref name=TheRuschk>2004/12 Pre-Throne of Destiny - The Ruschk</ref> This story was first available in Portal Year 15, although the events it described occurred earlier.

In a Journal Entry, written by Jasuinn di Irvina, Milantean is used to describe the people of Milantos<ref name=2005LiveEventsAnotherViamontianAttack>2005/07 Pre-Throne of Destiny - Journal Entry</ref> Jasuinn's body in Portal Year 16.

Sir Ginazio uses Milantean to descibe the people of Milantos.<ref name=SirGinazio>2005/07 Throne of Destiny - Sir Ginazio</ref> He first started saying this in Portal Year 16.

In the Developer Quote Where Portals Appeared on Ispar, Nuhmudira's Heritage, Milantean is used to describe the people of Milantos.<ref name=DevQuotesWherePortalsAppearedOnIsparNuhmudirasHeritage>2004/12 The Calm - Developer Quotes: Developer Quotes/Where Portals Appeared on Ispar, Nuhmudira's Heritage</ref> This reference is out of character and occurred in 2004, which converts to the Portal Year 15.

Milantos

In an introduction to Sho history, Milantos is used to describe the people and/or Kingdom of Milantos.<ref name=ZogblasterShoIntro>1999/11 Release - Zogblaster Archive: Sho Introduction</ref> This text could either be considered to be written in an in-universe third-person, or by an Isparian scholar on Dereth. If it was written by an Isparian, it was likely written between -15 PY and 10 PY.

In the text The Glorious Reign of Empress Kou-an , written by a Sho scholar, Milantos is used to describe the people and/or Kingdom of Milantos. It is not known when this was written, but given the content, it was clearly written on Dereth after Portal Year 0. It was released, along with many other pieces of lore, by the Arcanum in Portal Year 12.

In the Writ of Refuge Text, written by Nuhmudira, Milantos is used to describe the Empire of Milantos.<ref name=WritText>2001/10 Dark Majesty - Writ of Refuge Text</ref> This text first became available in Portal Year 12.

Analysis

1. The number of sources - Milantan is the most commonly used term, having appeared 9 times. Milantean is the next most common at 6 times, then Milantos at 3, and Milantane at 1.
2. The in-universe sources - Milantean is used by Nuhmudira, who, by all accounts, is the only person we know of who is from Milantos. Milantean seems to be used more by the Viamontians, while Milantan is used more by the Gharu'ndim and Aluvians.
3. The in-universe dates - Both Milantan and Milantean were most recently used, in Portal Year 16. In that year, Milantan was used 3 times while Milantean was used 2 times. In the previous year, Milantean was used 2 times, and the year before that, Milantan was used once.
4. The real-world dates - Both Milantan and Milantean were used in Throne of Destiny related content around July 2005.

Conclusion

It is the opinion of the editor that Milantean is the correct term. Using our criteria, it is a draw between Milantan and Milantean. However, since we are fairly certain that Nuhmudira is Milantean, we should assume that she knows the correct term for her own people.
