Members were recruited from the ranks of the Order of Heiromancers and of the Medi; they were supposed to be masters of all paths and marshalled for the purpose of maintaining order where corruption would attempt to gain footholds.<ref name=Order>2003/05 Discoveries - Order of Perfect Light</ref>

To join the Order of Perfect Light one needed to become an adept of each of the fourteen spheres of magic. First, they would be ushered to the level of Defender of the Light and attain the rank of Initiate. They were chosen by Asheron or by the others who hold tenure over courses offered at Knorr and held to an oath of trust.<ref name=Order>2003/05 Discoveries - Order of Perfect Light</ref> Rites indoctrinated any who advanced beyond the rank of Initiate, and were able to alter the the Hieromancer's Armor with an orb that radiates pure light. They were trained in the truths passed from Adja and Maila and trusted with the knowledge of the corruption that bleeds into all aspects of Yalaini society. <ref name=Order>2003/05 Discoveries - Order of Perfect Light</ref>
